Bhubaneswar: Odisha is expected to receive widespread rainfall under the influence of a low pressure area, which is likely to form over Bay of Bengal in next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
The western end of the Monsoon Trough is also passing through Amritsar, Dehradun, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Patna, Bankura, Digha and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal, it said.
The MeT office has forecast isolated very heavy rainfall over Odisha for 2 days. Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been sounded for Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul and Sambalpur districts on August 17 and Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput on August 18.
A few northern and southern districts also witnessed thundershower activity on Wednesday evening under the influence of the cyclonic circulation.

H R Biswas, head of the regional IMD centre here, said heavy rain would continue in coastal and interior districts. The intensity of rainfall will decrease by Sunday, he added.
The IMD has warned of temporary water logging in low-lying areas, poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. There is also a possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and some damages of kutcha road. Landslides are also likely in vulnerable hilly areas in Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
