Bhubaneswar: Odisha is bracing for another spell of heavy downpour as a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Westcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department informed on Monday.
“The embedded upper air cyclonic circulations, one over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and another over south Coastal Myanmar & neighbourhood in the east-west trough has merged and seen as a cyclonic circulation over Central Bay of Bengal extending up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Westcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood during the next 24 hours,” the weather agency said in its midday bulletin.
On September 23, yellow warning of heavy rain along with thunderstorm and lightning has been issued for isolated places in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Nabarangpur.
While heavy downpour accompanied by thunderstorm activity may continue at isolated places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jajpur, thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at isolated places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri during the subsequent 24 hours (September 24).
On September 25, there is a warning for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir and Nuapada. Heavy rainfall may also continue at isolated places in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Balangir on September 26.
Though there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places across the state during the subsequent two days.
The weather agency further informed about withdrawal of Southwest monsoon from some parts of West Rajasthan and Kachchh. “Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some more parts of West Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat during next 24 hours,” it added.
