Bhubaneswar: Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha during next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
The weather agency has also warned of lightning activity during next two days and advised people to take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning strikes, which claimed 12 lives and injured 14 in the state during the last 24 hours. A cyclonic circulation is also active over Northeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood and may intensify into a low pressure area over northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours, it added.

According to the midday bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at isolated places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Boudh, and Kandhamal till 8.30 am on Monday. Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenakanl, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Raygada and Sonepur.
On September 4, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at isolated places in Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur. There is also a forecast for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) at isolated places in Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Rayagada, Balangir, Nuapada, Ganjam and Gajapati. Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenakanl, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Boudh.
On September 5, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at isolated places in Malakangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur. Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at isolated places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda and Kalahandi.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) warning continues for subsequent 24 hours (September 6) for isolated places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
On September 7, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at isolated places in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Balangir and Nabarangpur. Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at isolated places in Boudh, Sonepur, Koraput, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Angul, and Nayagarh, the IMD said.
Odisha has recorded 802.2 mm rainfall against its normal value of 941.1 mm till September 3 this monsoon season. While 12 districts are deficient, the rest 18 districts are in the normal category. The spell of rainfall this week could offset the deficit rainfall in some of the districts.
