Bhubaneswar: As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area was formed over the west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts this afternoon.
This low-pressure area was formed due to a cyclonic circulation over the same area, the Met Office said.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, the system is likely to move west northwestward during next two days.
Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the districts in the south and coastal Odisha and some parts of the north interior districts in the next 12 hours and will continue for three days till August 18.
In view of the heavy rainfall, yellow warnings have been sounded for the following districts.
August 16
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
August 17
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Puri, Khurda and Cuttack.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Angul, Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam.
August 18
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Nuapada.
