Bhubaneswar: Odisha could be staring at another spell of heavy rain from November 9 under the influence of a tropical depression, which is likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast by November 11-12.

According to weather data available with the US-based National Centre for Environment Prediction (NCEP), a Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) will develop over north Andaman sea on November 3 and move west-northwestwards. It will then concentrate into a depression by November 6 and further move towards the Andhra coast. It is likely to cross close to Macchlipatnam by November 11-12.

The depression is expected to bring with it intense clouds and the forecast hints at intense rainfall in South Interior and Coastal Odisha till next Monday ( November 11).

According to Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University here, the low pressure area, which is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea on Sunday, could intensify into a cyclonic system.

The intensity of the system and time and place of crossing the east coast are yet to be confirmed, CEC Director Dr SC Sahu said.

The system’s movement and intensification would be understood with some clarity after ‘Maha’, the very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) over the Arabian Sea, crosses the Gujarat coast and weakens on the night of November 6, he said.

‘Maha’, a severe cyclonic storm, is expected to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and move in a west-northwesterly direction up to November 5 and then recurve north-eastwards towards the Gujarat coast in the evening or night of November 6.

It would weaken thereafter and continue to move northeast wards towards central India, he added.
