Bhubaneswar: Even as a spectre of drought looms large over Odisha due to deficit rainfall in August, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted normal showers in the state in September.
Director General of IMD Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the condition is favourable for more rainfall in Odisha.
“The modular study indicates that a low-pressure area is most likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal by September 6. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha for three days from the evening of September 6 till the morning of September 8,” Mohapatra said.
He also said the low pressure will trigger more rainfall mostly over the south-western districts, but the remaining areas of Odisha are also expected to receive normal rainfall during the period.
On the present weather condition in Odisha, Mohapatra said under the influence of a monsoon trough which passes through Naliya, Udaipur, Guna, Gondia, Gopalpur and then eastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal, there will be thunderstorm and lightning in some parts of south and north Odisha on September 3 and 4 after which there will be more rainfall from September 5.
