New Delhi: Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) will be the country’s second Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the Central government announced on Wednesday.
He will succeed Gen. Bipin Rawat, India’s first CDS who died in a helicopter crash last December.
The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that Lt Gen. Chauhan will also function as Secretary to Government of India, Department of Military Affairs.
“Govt of India appoints Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) who will also function as Secretary to Government of India, Department of Military Affairs,” the Defence ministry said.
