New Delhi: Suspended Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has been issued a notice for not vacating her government bungalow, PTI reported citing a source in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, who was expelled from Parliament on December 8 after being found guilty of unethical conduct, had been asked to vacate the house by January 7 as her allotment was cancelled.
That ‘deadline’ being over, the Directorate of Estates (DoE) has now asked her to reply to the notice within three days.
“A showcause notice has been issued to Mahua Moitra seeking her reply within three days as to why she has still not vacated her government accommodation,” the source said.
The TMC leader had challenged an official intimation which asked her to vacate the government accommodation by January 7.
Delhi High Court, on January 4, asked Moitra to approach DoE and request them to allow her continue to occupy the government accommodation allotted to her.
Justice Subramonium Prasad noted that the rules permitted authorities to allow a resident to overstay for up to six months on payment of certain charges in exceptional circumstances.
Moitra was accused of accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and sharing her user ID and password of the Parliament website with him.
