Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called on Amitabh Bachchan and his family at their residence here on Wednesday.
Mamata, who flew to Mumbai to attend the Opposition INDIA bloc’s meeting here on August 31 and September 1, drove straight from the airport to the Bachchan house in Juhu, reported PTI.
Besides Amitabh and his wife Jaya Bachchan, Mamata was welcomed by their son Abhishek, daughter Shweta Nanda, daughter-in-law Aishwarya, and granddaughters Navya Naveli and Aaradhya.
The Big B and Jaya, who have attended the inaugural functions of Kolkata International Film Festival a number of years, had a long-standing invitation for Mamata during her Mumbai visit.
The West Bengal CM reiterated her demand for Bharat Ratna for Amitabh.
“Amit ji is our Bharat Ratna. His family has also made a big contribution to the film industry. They are the No. 1 Indian family. If it were in my hands, I would have given him Bharat Ratna long back. But I am giving him the title of Bharat Ratna on behalf of people,” she told mediapersons.
“Today I tied rakhi on Amit ji. Today is a big day,” Mamata said, adding that she has invited the Bachchans to visit Kolkata again.
Asked who will be the INDIA alliance’s Prime Minister candidate, Mamata said, “India will be our PM face… Our primary concern is to save the country.”
Mamata later met Uddhav Thackeray and tied rakhi on him too.
