Balangir: Newly-elected BJP MLA Laxman Bag met the family members of slain lady teacher Mamita Meher on Sunday and assured them that their demand for a CBI probe in the murder case would be taken up with the Odisha government.
Bag, who defeated BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik in Kantabanji Assembly seat, met Mamita’s family members at their house at Jharani village under Turekela block in Balangir district.
Family members of the deceased teacher alleged that there was no headway in the case and reiterated their demand for a CBI probe into the sensational murder.
Surendra Meher, Mamita’s father, alleged that the investigation in the case made not much headway following the death of the main accused Gobinda Sahu in jail. He further alleged that though they have been demanding a CBI probe into the murder case, their plea so far has gone unheeded.
Mamita’s mother Tulashi Meher said they urged the new legislator to provide a job to their son and Bag promised to extend all necessary assistance in this regard.
Bag has assured the family members that he would take necessary steps to provide justice to them and also appeal to the state government to take steps for a CBI probe into the teacher’s murder.
Stating that the people of the constituency have elected him as their representative in the Assembly, Bag said his first duty is to give justice to the family members of Mamita. Therefore, he decided to meet her family members and discuss their problems.
Noting that the family members and others have been demanding a CBI probe into the murder, he said the previous regime did not take any step in this direction and he would urge the new government to initiate a CBI investigation.
