Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: Continuing its pressure on the state government on Mamita Meher case, BJP on Wednesday staged protests on the route of chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Cuttack.
While the chief minister was on his way to Arilo in Cuttack to inaugurate an Omfed Dairy Plant, hundreds of BJP workers staged a protest at Trisulia Chhak demanding resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged link with the prime accused in the murder of school teacher Mamita Meher.
The BJP activists also raised slogans against the minister and the state government. However, before the chief minister’s car could reach Trisulia, police took them into custody.
Similarly, at Naraj on the route of chief minister’s visit, heated altercation ensued between protesting BJP workers and members of ruling BJD. When the BJP workers were raising slogans against the government on the Mamita Meher issue at the protest site near Sri Sri University in Naraj, the BJD members reached there and opposed them. However, the situation was brought under control by the police deployed at the spot.
Later, the chief minister inaugurated the Omfed Dairy Plant at Arilo. The mega plant having the capacity of processing 5 lakh litre milk per day has been set up with a cost of Rs 263 crore, according to official sources.
