Bhubaneswar: Continuing its protest to put pressure on the state government to meet its demand to sack minister Dibya Shankar Mishra for his link with Mamita Meher murder case, BJP on Sunday resorted to black flag demonstration during the visit of minister Ashok Panda to a college in the city.
According to sources, Minister of Science & Technology, Public Enterprises Ashok Panda was on a visit to Ekamra College, here to lay foundation stone of a project. As the minister approached the college, some BJP workers blocked his carcade and showed black flags to him.
The BJP activists raised slogans against the government for not taking any step against Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra who had allegedly close connection with the prime accused in Mamita murder case, Govind Sahu.
While the BJP workers were staging demontration, a group of BJD activists present there opposed them and a scuffle ensued.
However, the police deployed there intervened to maintain law and order. After separating the activists of the two parties, the police detained the BJP workers and later, too them away in their van, the sources said.
It may be noted that the BJP, which is the main opposition party in the state Assembly, has decided to stage protests wherever the chief minister and his ministers visit across the state.
On Saturday, BJD workers were engaged in a scuffle with BJP activists at Ganesh Bazaar in Dhenkanal where the latter were staging a black-flag protest and raising slogans against the chief minister ahead of his visit to Angul. The police had taken around 50 BJP workers including senior party leader Rudra Narayan Pani into preventive custody.
