Balasore: In an inhuman act of gender discrimination, a father allegedly attempted to kill his infant daughter by administering poison injection in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.
As per reports, a year after their marriage, Chandan Mahana and Tanmayi were blessed with a baby girl 20 days back. Tanmayi was staying with her parents at Singhiri village under Nilagiri police limits after the delivery in a local private hospital.
Tamayee’s father Bhagirathi Singh told the media that Chandan came to see his daughter on the day. “While Chandan was sitting with the infant, Tanmayee went to take bath. Meanwhile, the baby started crying and Tanmayee rushed to her. She found a syringe and a bottle of poison lying below the bed.”
Stating that Chandan was not happy that he had become the father of a daughter and expressed displeasure openly. “Suspecting that he might have administered the poison to the baby, we questioned him. But he denied to have done anything like that.”
Later, when the villagers ghearoed him and told him to tell the truth, Chandan admitted to have administered the poison injection, said Bhagirathi.
The villagers rushed the infant to Balasore district headquarters hospital. On being informed, police detained Chandan and were questioning him.
