Man Drowns 14-Month-Old Son, Stabs Minor Daughter Over Family Dispute In Odisha’s Nuapada

Nuapada: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly drowned his 14-month-old son to death and brutally stabbed his minor daughter at Kutiapada village Boden area of Odisha’s Nuapada district on Tuesday.

As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Kutiapada village under the jurisdiction of Boden police station. The accused, identified as Kishore Majhi, who was hiding in a forest after committing the crime, was arrested by police.

Sources said the incident took place after an argument between Kishore and his wife Jayanti over dowry. The woman left for her parents’ house following the quarrel.

Angry over the development, Kishore took his two minor daughters (10 years and 8 years of age) and son into the nearby forest, with the intention of killing them. However, one of the daughters managed to escape.

Kishore proceeded to drown his infant son in a pond to death and then attacked his elder daughter with a knife and slit her throat.

The accused returned home in the evening, carrying the body of his son. He left the body outside the house and fled.

On being informed about the incident, his wife rushed back and took her injured daughter to the Boden Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment.

Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. A case has been registered in connection with the incident and investigation is underway.

Reports said the relationship between Kishore and Jayanti had deteriorated during the past two years, with frequent disputes involving dowry demands.
