Kolkata: A 40-year-old man from Kolkata allegedly hired a supari (contract) killer for his wife, all because she bought a smartphone without his ‘permission’.
The accused (contract killer) failed to kill her. The woman had to get seven stitches in her throat after the accused allegedly injured her with sharp objects.
The incident occurred late Thursday night in Narendrapur, on Kolkata’s southern outskirts. The attacker was also arrested. Police are now looking for another man who was recruited by the attacker, India Today reported.
A senior officer from Narendrapur police station told Hindustan Times, “According to the woman, she had asked her husband, a few months ago, to buy her a smartphone, which he refused. The woman who has been earning some money by giving tuition classes bought a smartphone on January 1. When the husband got to know about it he was furious and threatened to kill her.”
According to the police, on Thursday night, the man went to lock the main door of the house. However, he did not return to his room. Feeling something amiss, the woman went to look for him and was assaulted by two guys.
The profusely bleeding woman managed to flee the house and raise an alarm. Locals heard the woman’s screams and rushed to her rescue. They caught one of the assailants and the husband. However, the other assailant was able to get away, the report added.
The husband was identified as Rajesh Jha and the hired assailant was identified as Surajit.
