Bhubaneswar: A woman sustained critical injuries after her husband allegedly barged into her office at Baramunda in Odisha capital and attacked her with a sharp weapon on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 1.30 pm at the office of a real estate firm behind Baramunda bus terminal. The accused Sapan Kumar Kar (35) stabbed his wife Madhusmita Das (26) three to four times in the abdomen, neck, hands and on the back after a heated exchange.
The office staff overpowered the attacker as he was trying to flee and informed police, which then detained him for questioning. Madhusmita was admitted to a nearby hospital.
The CCTV footage of Sapan slapping Madhusmita and then attacking her with a knife has also gone viral.
The couple, belonging Balasore’s Soro, had tied the knot in 2018 and have a five-year-old son. They, however, have been living separately since 2021 following personal differences. Madhusmita had also lodged a dowry complaint against Sapan with Soro police and the matter is sub-judice.
Police said that Sapan, who is working as a chef at a bar in Pune, was in Odisha to attend the final rites of his uncle. He was miffed as Madhusmita did not attend the rituals, said an officer of the Bharatpur police station.
