Balangir: A man allegedly hacked his wife to death at Mundadara village under Belpara police limits in Balangir district late on Wednesday.
The incident took place at around 2 am when the accused identified as Dhabaleswar Chiragun and his wife Baidehi had a fight over some issue.
Moments later, the situation took an ugly turn and Dhabaleswar attacked his wife with an axe. He also hit the woman with a crowbar, killing her on the spot.
The accused later surrendered at Belapada police station.
Dhabaleswar told police that he suspected her of practising witchcraft. “On the fateful night, I lost my cool following a heated argument with her and hacked her to death,” he added.
Police have started investigation into the incident by collecting the statements of the neighbours.
