New York: A man jumped to death from the the world’s largest cruise ship ‘Icon of the Seas’ shortly after it set off on its maiden voyage, from Florida.
After the ship set sail for a week-long Caribbean cruise on Saturday, the man jumped into the waters on the first night when it was roughly 300 miles out of Port Miami, US media reported
Rescuers located the man and brought him back aboard the cruise ship, but he was pronounced dead, New York Post reported quoting the US Coast Guard.
After a two-hour pause, when the crew assisted Coast Guard personnel in their search and rescue efforts, the ship resumed its journey.
The Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is 1,200 feet long and can accommodate over 10,000 people. It has a resort getaway, seven pools, including the first suspended infinity pool at sea, a theme park, and more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges.
“Icon of the Seas is the culmination of more than 50 years of dreaming, innovating and living our mission – to deliver the world’s best vacation experiences responsibly,” Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty had said in January.
