Mumbai: A 44-year-old man was allegedly kidnapped and held captive in a dilapidated house for eight days from September 20 to 28 by her ex-wife and her relatives over a monetary settlement for divorce. Thane police registered a case against the woman and her relatives.
Police said the man living at Punjabi colony in Ulhasnagar was kidnapped when he came out of his home to make some purchases on June 20. The men demanded him to increase the compensation amount for his divorce from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. The man expressed his inability to pay more money. Enraged by this, the gang took him to a secluded place.
The man was held captive, with two men keeping an eye on him to ensure he didn’t escape. He was also being threatened for life if he did not increase the compensation amount to his divorced wife.
Finally, he managed to escape and register a complaint with the police on Saturday.
An FIR has been registered against his wife and other related persons under Section 140(2) (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder or for ransom) Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the police said.
