Jajpur: A man was killed and his daughter critically injured in firecracker explosion in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday evening.
As per reports, the incident took place at Basudevpur village under Alakunda police station in the district. While the man, identified as Kalandi Mallik of the village, was preparing the crackers, there was a powerful explosion.
While Kalandi died in the explosion on the spot, his daughter Benguli Mallik sustained critical injuries. On hearing the explosion, the villagers rushed to their house and took them to district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Jajpur.
The doctors declared Kalandi dead on arrival and started on treatment of his daughter. Later, the girl was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.
Speaking to the media, Dr Nilamani Tilak Chand Behera of the DHH said, “I think the girl was injured in an explosion. She has sustained 60% burn injuries. I have carried out preliminary treatment. Since it is a critical case, I have referred her to SCB Hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, the family members of Kalandi have claimed that there was no cracker explosion in their house.
