Berhampur: A man was killed and his wife critically injured as an ambulance met an accident with their motorcycle in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday.
According to sources, 55-year-old Jaya Mahakud of Gundibari village under Sorada block of the district was going on his bike with his wife Subasini Mahakud as pillion rider in the afternoon. As they reached Khariguda, the 108 ambulance coming from opposite direction collided with the motorcycle.
The sources said the driver of the ambulance, which was taking a patient from Badagada, lost control over the steering and the vehicle hit Jaya riding the bike. On the impact of the accident, both Jaya and Subasini were thrown off the bike and crashed on the road.
The locals rushed to the spot to rescue the couple. But Jaya died on the spot. The villagers sent Subasini a hospital at Sorada. Later, she was shifted to MKCG Hospital at Berhampur. Her condition was stated to be critical.
On being informed, a team from Sorada police station went to the spot. The villagers, who had caught hold of the ambulance driver, handed him over to the police.
