Bhubaneswar: A man and his nephew died of drowning in an open well in Odisha’s Khurda district on Sunday.
According to sources, Nikhil Nayak of Goda Dharmasagar under Jatni Municipality area of the district was fetching water from the open well near his house in the afternoon when he slipped and fell into it.
On coming to know about, Nikhil’s uncle (father’s younger brother) Dula Nayak jumped into the well to save his 18-year-old nephew. As both of them could not come out of well and drowned, the locals informed the police and Fire Brigade.
The Fire services personnel rescued Dula and his nephew in unconscious condition from the well and rushed them to the community health centre (CHC) in Jatni. But the doctors in the health facility declared them brought dead.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
