Berhampur/Cuttack: Digapahandi Police have arrested a man for allegedly running a clinic at Sanakhemundi in Odisha’s Ganjam district without an authorised degree.

The accused has been identified as Subhrajit Panda of Sandha village in Dhenkanal district. He was treating people posing as the specialist doctor of AIIMS, Delhi and Bhubaneswar. He also ran a clinic at Ranihat in Cuttack.

According to sources, a police team led by Digapahandi police station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Dipti Ranjan Behera visited Babul Clinic two days ago on the direction of Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, who received a complaint from the family of an elderly woman whom the fake doctor had treated.

The sources further said that Simanchal Sahu of Chanameri village had lodged a complaint against him as his ailing mother became critical after being administered some injections and medications by Panda. The patient was taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and later referred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated.

Panda was detained after he failed to produce any authentic document to support his MBBS degree and registration number.

The cops later conducted raids at his rented house at Sanakhemundi, the clinic at Ranihat in Cuttack and his residence in the city. A luxurious car has also been seized from his possession.

Panda used to charge Rs 300 for 5-minute consultation. He prepared the fake degree after completing Plus II and started treating people after learning about medicine from medical representatives, the sources further said.

“Several fake medical certificates from various colleges along with other documents were recovered during the raid. The accused has been arrested and will be produced in court today,” informed Digapahandi IIC Dipti Ranjan Behera

He was earlier arrested by Telangana police in February 2020 for attending a doctors’ meeting by posing as a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
