Berhampur: A man was shot dead and his daughter critically injured in a firing incident over land dispute in Polasara area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Bijay Kumar Behera of Kumunda village under the jurisdiction of Khallikot police station. His daughter Gayatri Behera sustained grievous injuries in the shooting incident, sources said.
The in-laws of Gayatri were involved in a dispute over land with a close relative for the last few days.
Gayatri had invited Bijay to mediate between the two sides in a bid to resolve the issue. However, a member of the rival family allegedly opened fire, causing injuries to Bijay and his daughter.
The two were rushed to a hospital at Polasara, where Bijay was declared dead on arrival. His daughter is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The accused, who had fled the scene soon after committing the crime, has been nabbed from Hinjili area of the district by a police team from Polasara, the sources added.
