Cuttack: Hours after a woman, who was found alive after an alleged suicide bid in the Kathajodi in Cuttack, her husband on Saturday disowned her over her suspected illicit affair with his brother-in-law.
Barsha Lenka and Krushna Muduli, who is husband of her husband’s sister, were reported missing after allegedly jumping off Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose bridge into the Kathajodi at Trisulia on Friday evening. Their Aadhaar cards, mobile phones and shoes were recovered from the spot. The rescue team, however, failed to trace them.
Much to everyone’s surprise, the duo arrived at Purighat police station (PS) this morning, claiming that they were stranded in the river the whole night. Fire Service personnel, however, expressed doubt over this claim as the river is in spate.
Later speaking to the media, her husband, Pradyumna Lenka, said that Barsha had been creating friction in his family and had eloped with Krushna about a month ago. “I had gone to the Mahila police station to lodge a complaint. A few hours later, Krushna abused me and threatened to end his life by jumping into the Mahanadi,” claimed the resident of Ramachandi village in Banki area of Cuttack district.
Pradyumna has refused to take her back. “I have two children but she did not care for them. This has happened earlier too, how long do I tolerate this?” he asked.
After a medical check-up, police have detained the duo for questioning in the matter.
