Imphal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched a thorough investigation into three major cases related to the recent spate of violence in Manipur.
The anti-terror agency re-registered these cases after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) ordered it to take over the investigations from Manipur government considering the gravity of the offences, NIA said in a press release.
In the first case registered on November 11, several houses were burnt and two civilians killed at Borobekra. Unknown militants also abducted and killed 3 women and 3 children.
The second case is connected with the November 11 attack on a CRPF post located at Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra police stations, in Jiribam district, by armed militants. A CRPF constable sustained bullet injuries and had to be moved to Silchar for medical treatment.
Security forces and police personnel found bodies of unidentified militants, along with arms and ammunition, from the vicinity of the attack.
The third case concerns the brutal torture and killing of a woman at Jiribram by fully armed militants on November 7. A mother of 3 was raped and burnt alive at her residence in Jairolpokpi, Jiribam, by the militants.
Manipur Police have imposed a curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East because of the tense situation that prevails following the killing of six people. The state administration has also suspended internet in seven districts of the northeastern state.
