Bhubaneswar: Three more persons sustained injuries after getting entangled in kite manja (glass-coated string) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The incident occurred near Pala Mandap in Dumduma area here where some people were flying manja-laced kites in violation of the ban on use of the glass-coated string.
According to reports, a Law student going on a two-wheeler noticed two bike-borne persons getting entangled in a kite thread and slowed down. But, as the thread was invisible the glass-coated thread brushed past the youth leaving a scar on his neck. One of the injured bike-riders has been hospitalised, stated sources.
Khandagiri police reached the spot, seized the manja and started an investigation into the incident.
Last month one person died and another sustained injuries after getting entangled in a manja-laced kite thread in Cuttack and Puri areas.
On Dec 26, one Jayant Samal of Bhayarpur died after his throat got slit by the banned glass-coated kite string (manja) when he was going on motorcycle with his wife to father-in-law’s place at Pirbazaar in Cuttack city.
On Dec 27, a motorcyclist in Puri town suffered severe injuries after his neck got entangled in a banned glass-coated kite string (manja).
The victim, identified as Bhanjabihari Patra of Kundhaibenta Sahi, is undergoing treatment at Puri district headquarters hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.
