Malkangiri: The day-long bandh called by Maoists affected public transport in Malkangiri district on Friday.
Apprehending law and order problem, the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) stopped plying buses on several routes in the district and outside.
Private buses and other vehicles also stayed off the road in fear of Maoist attack or any untoward incident.
Most shops, markets, commercial establishments, offices and educational institutions downed their shutters in response to the bandh.
Maoist banners and posters were found at different places in the district in which they had opposed the Polavaram project and Gurupriya bridge. The rebels had also urged the locals to support the strike.
Security has been intensified in the district with deployment of adequate police forces.
