Bhubaneswar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at multiple locations in Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh in connection with terror funding by Maoist groups.
Three country-made pistols, one .315 bore rifle, several digital devices, Maoist literature, incriminating documents and four kg suspected narcotics were seized during the raids carried out with assistance from police, Special Task Force and the CRPF.
An NIA official told the media that the searches were conducted at 26 places in the districts of Jehanabad, Patna rural, Arwal, Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada and Aurangabad in Bihar, Koderma district in Jharkhand, Bhubaneshwar in Odisha and Nellore in Andhra.
A network of terror financing is being operated by CPI (Maoist) cadres and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in the Magadh region of Bihar and new cadres are also being recruited in liaison with incarcerated Maoists, OGWs in various jails to revive and strengthen the Maoist activities in this region, the official said, adding that attempts are also being made to raise funds for procurement of arms and ammunition.
