Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): A Maoist involved in the daring attack on the Nayagarh district armoury in Odisha in 2008, has surrendered to police here.
The former Maoist identified as Sonu, who also went around with the aliases Shamu and Somu, surrendered to the Bijapur SP.
Police sources revealed that Sonu was wanted for the killing of 12 security personnel and carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head. He also used to double up as a doctor for the Maoists and gave training to new recruits.
Notably, Maoists had looted a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Nayagarh district armoury on February 15, 2008. As many as 13 policemen and a civilian were killed in the attack. Besides, 10 policemen were injured.
