Phulbani: A 24-hour bandh called by Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of CPI (Maoist) had limited impact with vehicular movement partially affected in different parts of Kandhamal district on Thursday.
Besides Kandhamal, the bandh is also being observed in Kalahandi, Boudh and Nayagarh districts to protest against the death of five rebels in the recent police encounters in Sudukumpa forest near Golanki village in the district.
In Kandhamal, the rebels also blocked major roads near Pokharibandha and Baliguda-Landagaon route by placing tree branches, disrupting vehicular traffic.
However, shops and offices remained opened during the strike.
Similarly, Maoists posters condemning the killing of ultras were also found pasted at different places in Kalahandi, Boudh and Nayagarh districts, where many business establishments remained open but vehicular movement on important routes was thin.
Security has been beefed up and police patrolling intensified, apprehending subversive activities in these four districts. Adequate CRPF personnel have also been deployed at these places to prevent any untoward incident.
