Berhampur: The marital discord of Dr Sumit Sahu and his wife Tapaswini Dash persisted on Wednesday despite court’s order as the latter accused her in-laws of not allowing her to stay with her husband.
Speaking to the media, here on Wednesday, Tapaswini said she had to stay in the garage of Sumit’s house as her in-laws did not allow her to stay with her husband. They told her to stay in a room in the first floor of the house which was not suitable for a woman to stay, she added.
When she insisted on staying in Sumit’s bedroom in the ground floor, his family said the doctor’s grandmother, who is a heart patient, was staying there and hence she could not stay there.
On the other hand, Sumit’s lawyer Surendra Behera said Tapaswini’s in-laws had followed the court order and provided her the room in the first floor as they were having a shortage of rooms in the ground floor.
“The room is not uninhabitable as alleged by Tapaswini. It has become a bit dirty due to lack of use for some time. When we brought labourers to clean it, she did not allow us and locked up the gates. Besides, she was staying in that room after their marriage,” Behera said.
Refuting Behera’s statements, Tapaswini said she never stayed in that room. The officials of district administration, who had come yesterday to ensure that the court order is followed by Sumit’s family, also said it is not suitable to stay.
“The court has clearly stated in its order that I will stay in Sumit’s house amid his family members. It has nowhere mentioned that I would be given a separate room in the building away from my in-laws’ family,” she said.
It may be noted that the District and Sessions court in Berhampur had on Tuesday ordered that Tapaswini will stay with her husband in her in-laws’ place in Bramhanagar in the city. The court had also directed Sumit to pay Rs 17,000 per month to Tapaswini to meet her expenses.
