In a huge diplomatic win for India, Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar was designated a global terrorist by the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
China, in the past, had blocked petitions to blacklist Masood Azhar at least four times. This time, China approved the proposal stating it found no objection.
The Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief will now face a travel ban, arms embargo and his assets will be frozen. JeM had claimed responsibility for the February suicide bombing at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources say the subject was also discussed during Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Beijing last week.
