New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stressed on the importance of vaccinating children during his meeting with chief ministers to review the COVID-19 situation in the country.
COVID cases have been rising in the country over the past fortnight, with 2,927 fresh infections being reported on Wednesday — 17% more than the previous 24 hours.
Urging the authorities to remain alert, Modi said the pandemic was not over.
Interacting with the CMs – including Odisha’s Naveen Patnaik – the PM said vaccination of all eligible children at the earliest was a priority for the Central government.
“Our priority is to vaccinate all eligible children at the earliest. For this, as before, special campaigns will also be needed in schools. Teachers and parents should be aware about this,” Modi said.
“We have to promote COVID-appropriate behaviour in public places,” he added.
He acknowledged that health infrastructure had improved a lot in the country due to joint efforts of the Centre and states, adding that manpower and other resources should be further scaled up at medical colleges and district hospitals.
