Bhubaneswar: Amid the continuing heatwave condition, the mercury soared past 40 degree Celsius in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Monday. The Odisha capital recorded 40.2 degree Celsius and Cuttack 40.5 degree Celsius, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department said.

Angul was the hottest place in the state at 43.7 degree Celsius, followed by Balangir at 43.2 degree Celsius. A total of 21 places recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius.

Check the maximum temperature at other places in Odisha:

The IMD forecast said there would be no relief from the excruciating heat in the next four-five days. The day temperature will remain above 40 degree Celsius or two-three degrees above normal at many interior parts of the state.

“Clear sky, dry air and high solar inclination are supporting the continuous rise in mercury level in the interior parts of the state,” said scientist and head of the regional IMD centre here HR Biswas.

However, thunderstorm and rain are likely to occur at isolated places in the state till 8.30 am on April 23.
