Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha hoped for some relief from the sweltering heatwave conditions from Sunday, the mercury soared to 42.2°C in Sambalpur by 2.30 pm.

A total of seven places in the state recorded 37°C and above. The other six are Jharsuguda (41.6°C), Hirakud (40.2°C), Bhubaneswar (39.2°C), Balasore (38.2°C), Keonjhar (37.8°C) and Chandbali (37°C), the regional meteorological department tweeted.

The state has been reeling under severe heatwave for the last few days. Jharsuguda was the hottest at 42.2 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours (April 15) while the mercury had soared to 44 degree Celsius in Baripada on April 14. However, Saturday saw a slight drop in temperature at several places and it is likely to fall further by 2-3°C during the next 3 days with no large change thereafter. “The day temperature is very likely to be 40°C and more and remain 2-3°C above normal at a few places in the state,” the regional centre said in its midday bulletin.

The MeT office has also issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning at several places till 8.30 am on April 21. Odisha is also likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period. Check here:
