Bhubaneswar: A young migrant worker from Odisha’s Kandhamal district lost both his hands in a brutal attack by miscreants in Gujarat.

As per reports, the 22-year-old worker, Angad Mallick from Dahalapadi Sahi of Ward II of Baliguda NAC in the district, was lured by another youth from his village, identified as Rabi Sahani, with lucrative job in Gujarat. Rabi also introduced him to a broker who paid him Rs 8,000 in advance with assurance that the rest amount of his salary would be paid after he reached the work place.

Angad, who is married and has a daughter, did not inform his family about the proposal and boarded a train along with Rabi for Gujarat on April 27. They got down at a station in Gujarat but Angad is unable to recollect its name. Somehow Rabi got dissociated from him at the station.

While Angad was searching for Rabi, some miscreants beat him up mercilessly and he lost consciousness. When Angad came to senses, he found himself in a hospital and both his hands severed.

Meanwhile, Angad’s family desperately searched for his after he left the house. After failing to trace him, they filed a missing person case at Baliguda police station.

While the police launched a search operation, an NGO activist Rituben Berma from Palara informed them about Angad on June 22. She told the police that Angad was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Palara under Kachchh district of Gujarat. Angad’s elder brother Ratnakar and another family member went to Palara and brought him back home.

Speaking to media persons in his village, Angad said, “I do not recollect the name of the station where I and Rabi got down from the train. While I was a bit perplexed, Rabi went missing. Then the miscreants beat me severely and I lost my consciousness. When I came to my senses, I found myself at the hospital.”

The IIC of Baliguda police station, Babashankar Saraf said they had registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain exact circumstances that led Angad to lose his hands.
