Jajpur: A man in Odisha’s Jajpur town was cheated of Rs 13 lakh by a minor neighbour and his aunty. The minor boy, a Class X student, had used the neighbour’s ATM card and somehow managed to get the password to execute the loot.
According to reports, Deepak Behera of Sitaleshwar area under Jajpur Town police limits had received over Rs 30 lakh against a land deal and had deposited the money in his bank account.
The accused who shared a cordial relationship with Deepak had asked for hotspot connection from Deepak’s phone and managed to get the phone password. Some days later he managed to lay his hands on Deepak’s ATM card and get its password stored in Deepak’s mobile phone.
He used the ATM to not only withdraw money from Deepak’s bank account but also enjoyed some shopping. Deepak learnt about the loot when he went to check his bank account but the boy had already withdrawn Rs 13 lakh.
Deepak lodged a complaint and local police registered a case besides initiating an investigation. Police verified the bank statement and CCTV footage.
Police have arrested the minor boy and his aunty and seized a laptop, mobile phone and 2 bikes from the boy’s possession. His mother is absconding ever since.
