Cuttack: A minor girl fell prey to cyber fraud in Odisha’s Cuttack on Friday after ordering from online platforms.
According to sources, the minor girl from Nua Bazaar received the parcel from the delivery service E-Kart for one of her orders. Her mother received it in her absence and paid Rs 400. Later, she found a pile of rags inside the package and contacted the delivery boy. She demanded to return the parcel and initiate a refund following which he asked her to give him a PhonePe number to which he could transfer the amount.
The minor girl gave him the neighbour’s number as she did not have her own PhonePe account.
The caller then asked the person to click on the link on the PhonePe number to receive the refund. But as soon as he did, an amount of Rs 19,000 was instantly deducted.
A complaint was lodged with the Cyber Crime Police Station in this regard. Additional DCP Anil Mishra informed that the actual order was placed from Flipkart and it is yet to be delivered. The case is being probed.
