Kendrapara: Violence against minor girls continues unabated despite the state government’s assurance to deal with the culprits in the most stringent manner. The latest incident involving a minor girl was reported from Birabhanjapur in Pattamundai of Kendrapara district.
The survivor was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law on Monday.
According to sources, the accused dragged the girl off a road and took her to a nearby prawn gheri. He then gagged the child’s face with a dupatta and raped her.
Basing on a complaint lodged by the survivor’s family, Talchua marine police started investigation and detained the accused, identified as Akash Jena.
Meanwhile, another rape survivor allegedly ended her life by consuming poison in Nuagaon of Nayagarh district.
The girl was allegedly raped six months back. Her family members came to know about the incident last month after she got pregnant following which they lodged a complaint with Nuagaon police station. The accused, identified as Debraj Barik, was immediately arrested and forwarded to court.
