Nabarangpur: The BJD on Friday threatened a district-wide protest alleging police inaction in alleged rape and murder case of a minor girl in Odisha’s Nabarangpur.
The district BJD president Ramesh Chandra Majhi said Chief Minister and ST & SC Development minister (from Nabarangpur) belong to the tribal community ‘so the matter must be taken up very seriously’.
“We demand that the accused should be apprehended and exemplary action needs to taken against this heinous crime. If our demands are not met, BJD will launch protest across Nabarangpur,” Majhi said.
The district BJP dismissed BJD’s allegations of police inaction saying the regional party leaders are politicising the matter. Nabarangpur district BJP president Jagdish Bisoyi said, “The police has sought 15 days time and action will be taken. Law will take its own course.”
It may be noted that a minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered under Tentulikhunti police limits in Nabarangpur district on Tuesday. Mutilated body of the minor was found near a bush behind a school.
While a towel was found stuffed inside the mouth of the deceased, her dress was discovered some meters away from the body, sources said.
