Berhampur: Unidentified miscreants assaulted and looted a couple on Bhanjanagar-Daspalla road in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
As per reports, the couple, Sushant Sethi and his wife Narmada of Garuda Pathara village, had gone on a motorcycle to Kulad near Bhanjanagar to purchase some puja materials for Diwali. While they were returning, five miscreants stopped them on Lembei Bardanda road in Bhanjnagar-Daspalla route under Tarasing police station.
The miscreants beat up Sushant and took away Rs 10,000 in cash from him. They also snatched gold jewellery from Narmada. While they were trying to leave the place, Sushant’s son, who was coming from behind, tried to stop them.
But the miscreants assaulted him and smashed his mobile phone on the road before speeding away on their bikes. Later, Sushant’s son with the help of some locals rushed his parents to Bhanjanagar Hospital.
On being informed about the incident, police under the supervision of Bhanjnagar SDPO Biswamitra Harpal put up road blockades at various places and were checking the vehicles to nab the miscreants.
It may be noted that some miscreants had robbed a youth at knife-point near Khariguda toll gate under Bhanjanagar police station on November 8. The police arrested 5 persons in this connection and recovered the loot.
