Bhubaneswar: Despite elaborate security arrangements made by the Commissionerate Police for Dussehra festival, unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold chains from four women devotees at a Durga Puja landal in Bomikhal area in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
According to preliminary information, four women devotees who visited the Durga Puja pandal to offer prayers in the morning were looted in a span of around 15 minutes.
The incident took place in broad daylight as the miscreants targeted the women taking advantage of the huge crowd at the pandal on the occasion of Maha Ashtami on Sunday.
A large number of devotees had thronged different puja pandals in the state capital, including the one in Bomikhal area, where the incident reportedly took place between 10.15 am and 10.30 am.
The loot was suspected to have been committed by the members of a gang of women.
On being informed, the police have launched an investigation to identify the accused persons. The CCTVs installed at the puja pandal are being examined as part of the probe.
