Phulbani: Unidentified miscreants opened fire at a gold merchant and decamped with a bag containing valuable ornaments at Baliguda in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place near Nehru Chhak in Baliguda when the trader carrying a bag full of gold ornaments was approaching his jewellery shop.
Three bike-borne miscreants suddenly appeared at the scene and attacked the gold merchant, identified as Subash Achari. The trio opened fire at Subash and also attacked him with a sharp weapon, before snatching the bag containing gold ornaments from him.
The jeweller, who sustained critical injuries in the attack, has been admitted to a hospital at Baliguda for treatment.
On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the site and launched an investigation. They are examining the CCTV cameras in the area, while a hunt has been launched for the attackers.
