Bhubaneswar: Throwing an open challenge to police, two miscreants opened fire after looting a jewellery shop in Janla area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The day-light heist took place at Sagarika Jewellers where the miscreants first looted the shop at gun-point. They opened fire when locals tried to nab the fleeing duo.
The whole incident has been captured on the CCTV installed outside the shop.
On getting the information, Jatni police officials along with a forensic team, Zone SP, reached the shop. Police have seized the hard drive containing the CCTV footage and initiated an investigation into the incident. Efforts were on to identify and nab the looters.
The shop owner said the robbers sprayed chemical on his face and decamped with whatever ornaments they could lay their hands on. When the owner tried to intercept them by hitting them with a stick, one of them opened fire at him. Gold jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh has been looted, he added.
