Cuttack: Police on Sunday recovered body of a Class VII student with slit throat near a pond at Thoriasahi village under Jagatpur police station limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Prakash Behera, son of Jagannath Behera. He went missing on Saturday.
According to sources, the victim left home after being scolded by his parents for not focusing on his studies. He reportedly wandered in the village and had lunch at a temple. When he did not return late into the night, they searched for him but in vain. Locals spotted his body in a bushy area near the pond around 8 am and informed his parents and police.
“The 12-year-old boy was found lying in a pool of blood near a village pond. The cut marks on the body indicate that he might have been murdered. We have started an investigation into the matter,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Arun Swain.
The family has denied any personal or past enmity. “My son had no enemies. Whoever has killed him must be punished,” the boy’s father said.
