Puri: The body of an 18-year-old girl, who had gone missing after reportedly falling in a river, was found floating in Rajua river in Odisha’s Puri district on Thursday.
The body of the girl, a student of Plus III second year Arts from Gadabadaput village under the jurisdiction of Kanas police station in the district, was spotted by some locals. She was studying in a nearby college.
Sources said the girl was on her way to college yesterday when she slipped and fell off the river bridge. She went missing after the incident and her family members informed local police and fire services personnel about it.
On being informed, a team of fire services personnel had undertaken a search operation at the lower catchment of Rajua, Makara and Daya rivers, but failed to trace her.
However, some locals of Haripur village travelling in a boat spotted the body floating in the river today and informed the police. The body was recovered and sent for postmortem, while police launched an investigation into the incident.
