Kathmandu: Indian mountaineer Anurag Maloo, who went missing on April 17 after falling into a deep crevasse on Mt Annapurna in Nepal, was on Thursday found alive in critical condition.
Anurag was located by a team of rescuers after three days of intense search efforts and is currently under treatment in Pokhara, PTI quoted his brother as saying.
The 34-year-old Indian entrepreneur and experienced climber fell into a crevasse below Camp III while returning from Camp IV of Mt Annapurna — 10th highest peak in the world – on Monday.
When the rescue team of six sherpas and two foreigners – assisted by Indian and Nepalese authorities – found Anurag, his pupils were dilated and there were no visible signs of life. But a team of doctors led by Dr Aseem Subedi helped bring ‘rhythm’ to his vital organs and some movement in his limbs, The Indian Express reported quoting hospital sources.
Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks which was involved in Anurag’s rescue efforts, told the Express that the operation was very risky, as there were avalanches every hour.
“Everyone risked their lives to save him but we were lucky that no one was injured … this was one of the highest rescue efforts in the world,” he said.
