Berhampur: An electricity pole with high-tension wires standing in the middle of the road and posing threat to the lives of the people in Odisha’s Ganjam district will be removed due to the initiative of MLA Siddhant Mohapatra.

The pole standing at an odd place caught the attention of actor-turned-politician Siddhant while he was on a tour to villages under Chasanimakhandi panchayat in Digapahandi block of the district. Siddhant, who was elected as BJP MLA from Digapahandi in recent elections, stopped his car and got down to inspect the pole.

The MLA, who was accompanied by former block chairman Bipin Chandra Pradhan and BJP workers, enquired about the peculiar location of the pole from the locals. He was informed by the local residents that the Rural Development department had carried out the works to widen the road that connects Sindhaba to Padampur.

Even after the road works were completed, the pole was not removed and continued to stand in its place. Since high-tension power lines have been drawn to the pole, those posed threat to the people and vehicles going on the road. Many accidents were also reported from the same spot, said the locals.

They further said though they had drawn the attention of the authorities of the authorities concerned to the electricity pole, no step has been taken to remove it.

Following his discussion with the locals and his party leaders, Siddhant asked the TPSODL and engineers of the Rural Development department to shift the pole to the side of the road as soon as possible.
