Kolkata: Narendra Modi will face the same fate as Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, predicted Trinamool Congress MLA Idris Ali.
Gotabaya was forced to flee his official residence on Saturday as thousands of angry protesters demanding his resignation stormed the building. They have taken over the palatial building and have vowed to camp there till the President actually resign and a new government is formed.
Ali’s curse came after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was not invited to the inauguration ceremony of Sealdah Metro Railway station in Kolkata.
The inauguration is scheduled to take place on July 11, with Union minister Smriti Irani to do the honours remotely.
According to the MLA, not inviting Mamata was an injustice as the project was initiated by her while she was Union Railway minister.
“Mamata Banerjee had approved the metro project when she was Railway minister. The state fully cooperated during the construction of the project. The value of the acquired land was Rs 600 crore, and the chief minister gave that money. Even then, the Metro station is being inaugurated without inviting her,” said Kolkata Mayor and state Transport minister Firhad Hakim.
“The chief minister is not eager to attend the ceremony, but the people of the state are watching everything. The Centre only does politics. It doesn’t know how to cooperate,” he added.
BJP dismissed TMC’s charges.
“The Trinamool is judging the Centre in their own way. The Centre always cooperates with the state but they are not cooperating with the Centre,” BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya countered.
